A Family Court judge ruled that he could not issue an order of protection directing one woman to stay away from another woman because they did not have an “intimate relationship” under the meaning of state law.

While the two women each have had children by the same man—the source of the conflict between them—Brooklyn Judge Javier Vargas said the relationship between the women identified as “Susanna A.” and “Katherine K.” does not qualify as “intimate” under the Family Court Act §812(1).
