Former prominent New York personal injury and medical malpractice lawyer Stuart Schlesinger was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison Sept. 30 for stealing over $5 million from the settlements he obtained from more than two dozen clients.
With a chorus of victims who packed the benches in Judge William Pauley’s courtroom murmuring “greed” and “shame,” and, more than once, shouting at the disbarred attorney, Pauley said Schlesinger “converted his law license into a license to steal” and then made it worse.
