A Manhattan judge said comity and common sense dictate that she stay a decision in a suit before her court over the rightful entertainment representative of “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips, and that she give a California state labor board time to rule on the same question first.

State Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla said both the suit before her and the administrative appeal in California hinge on whether 19 Entertainment, an entertainment production company based in Los Angeles, was empowered or not empowered by California’s Talent Agencies Act to be Phillips’ rightful representative.
