A woman who claimed a New York City zoning restriction violated her First Amendment rights by barring her from placing an illuminated peace sign in her apartment window has lost her appeal.

The city had ordered Brigitte Vosse to take down the peace sign from the window of her 17th floor apartment at The Ansonia on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and had fined her $800 because she lives in a zoning district that generally prohibits illuminated signs higher than 40 feet above curb level.
