Hundreds gathered on Friday and Saturday to pay final respects to Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson, who was hailed as a much-needed agent of change to New York City’s criminal justice system during his short time in office.

Thompson, who was elected as Brooklyn’s first African American DA in 2013, died on Oct. 9 at the age of 50 after a battle with colorectal cancer.
