Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano was indicted Thursday alongside Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto on bribery charges related to a kickback scheme with a local restaurateur and a no-show job for Mangano’s wife, who was also indicted, the Eastern District U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
Prosecutors have accused Mangano, 54, and Venditto, 67, with taking bribes from the restaurateur—who is identified as “Co-Conspirator #1″ in court papers but has been identified in media reports and by defense counsel in the case as restaurant magnate Harendra Singh—in exchange for the Town of Oyster Bay’s guarantee on four loans to Singh that added up to $20 million.
