Among the 56 court officer recruits who recently took their oath of office was Jessica Bergin, center, whose late uncle, John Bergin, was a court officer in the 1990s and later served as a New York City firefighter before he died on 9/11. His niece will wear the same shield number her uncle wore when he was a court officer.
Chief Judge Janet DiFiore, who administered the oath, is pictured with Bergin and Chief of Training Joseph Baccellieri. The 39 men and 17 women will join the ranks of the court system’s 4,100 officers, as well as its approximately 2,000 additional non-uniformed peace officers.
