A generally quiet race for the open Westchester County district attorney seat heated up this past week, as the two candidates clashed in three public forums, finding their largest source of disagreement was whose experience makes them most qualified for the job.
Republican Bruce Bendish, who is also running on the Reform Party line, served 14 years with the Westchester DA’s Office and has spent the last 25 in a private criminal defense practice. Democrat Anthony Scarpino, who also will appear on the Conservative and Women’s Equality lines, has never been a prosecutor but spent three decades as a judge, which he said allowed him to see cases from all sides and be involved with cases at each stage.
