For New York’s federal courts, the biggest impact of Donald Trump’s election, at least in the short term, will be felt at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and in the Eastern District of New York.
There are currently two vacancies on the Second Circuit that came open with the decision of Judges Gerard Lynch and Richard Wesley to take senior status earlier this year. Judge Peter Hall has just become eligible to take senior status, joining Judges Reena Raggi, Dennis Jacobs, Jose Cabranes and Rosemary Pooler, but there is no indication that the judges will to do so.
