A solo practitioner, Tanya Hobson-Williams, focuses on elder law issues, but also takes on business law cases, real estate closings and collections. She recently won appeals in the Appellate Division involving a property dispute involving two neighbors and a couple whose marriage was voided without the wife’s input. She makes time in her busy practice for pro bono work, serving as a guardian ad litem in New York City Housing Court, helping the elderly and disabled remain in their homes. She also lectures at senior citizen centers, assisted living facilities and law schools, and counsels families caring for the elderly. Additionally, in 2009, she became the first African American judge in the village of Hempstead, where she continues hearing cases.
