Mary Kay Vyskocil is embarking on a new career. In April, the veteran litigator became a Southern District bankruptcy judge after more than 30 years at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. At the firm, she handled commercial cases, contract and tort issues, bankruptcy-related issues, securities and antitrust law. She represented major insurers in mass tort claim cases, advised Swiss Re for coverage issues after 9/11 and Countrywide and UBS in residential mortgage-backed securities litigation. She has served in leadership positions in a dozen judicially created committees, federal and state bar association organizations, and civic groups, continuing many of those activities today.
