ALBANY – State court officials are asking for $2.18 billion in a 2017-18 spending plan they said continues to ease the strict austerity measures imposed in the early 2010s.

The budget proposal released Thursday calls for the court system to add about 200 to its workforce of 14,593 non-judicial employees, increase evening hours for small-claims courts in New York City and purchase security equipment such as magnetometers at courthouse entrances and bullet-proof vests for uniformed court officers.
