New York state has reached settlements with two companies for paying for the posting of positive reviews on consumer-review websites.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Friday that medical emergency car service MedRite Care will pay a penalty of up to $100,000 for paying internet advertising companies and freelance writers to write good reviews for websites including Yelp.com. Depending on the company’s financial condition, it could pay half of the $100,000 if it complies with a settlement agreement that includes measures on transparency.
