Eleven bar associations have found all seven candidates for the most recent state Court of Appeals vacancy to be qualified for the job. Moreover, many of the groups gave higher ratings to all or some of the candidates.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo must choose from the list sent to him on Dec. 1 by the state Commission on Judicial Nomination. If Cuomo’s choice is confirmed by the Senate, he or she will succeed Judge Eugene Pigott Jr., 70, who must step down at the end of this month due to mandatory retirement rules.
