President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday named Robert Lighthizer, a free-trade critic and longtime partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, as his choice to serve as the next U.S. trade representative.

A veteran adviser to U.S. steel industry clients, Lighthizer served from 1983 to 1985 as deputy U.S. trade representative during the Ronald Reagan administration and held the title of ambassador. He has been a partner in Skadden’s Washington office for three decades.
