The 24,000-member New York City Bar Association wants the U.S. Senate’s Judiciary Committee to conduct a “rigorous” and “searching” inquiry of Sen. Jeff Sessions III for U.S. attorney general.

City bar president John Kiernan said that while the Senate should afford deference to President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet choices, the attorney general’s post requires a special level of scrutiny because of the job’s importance.
