Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s plan to close the Indian Point nuclear power plant will relieve Entergy Corp. of the need to defend against expensive legal challenges to the re-licensing of the facility.

Company executives said their agreement on a plan with Cuomo and New York state to wind down Entergy’s operation of the reactors at Indian Point by 2025 at the latest was prompted by the adverse economics of the power industry.
