The New York State Bar Association is among the legal groups supporting Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s call for creation of a public-private defense project to protect the legal rights of immigrants.

Under Cuomo’s plan, which he outlined in his 2017 State of the State message last week, legal counsel would be available to all immigrants facing proceedings at which their detention and deportation is at stake.
