Broome and Erie counties are suing leading manufacturers of OxyContin, Percocet and other opioid-based drugs, contending that the pharmaceutical makers misled the public and doctors about the addictive nature of the prescription painkillers.

Each suit names 11 pharmaceutical companies and related businesses that make, promote, market and distribute opioid-based drugs, as well as four doctors who helped the companies promote them nationwide.
