A winter storm that dumped about a foot of snow on the New York City area closed many courthouses on Thursday, including the Thurgood Marshall U.S. Courthouse in Foley Square, pictured above.

The closures included the Southern District courthouses in Manhattan, White Plains and Poughkeepsie; the Central Islip courthouse of the Eastern District; state courts in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland & Westchester, Sullivan, and Ulster counties; Nassau and Suffolk County courts except for the arraignment part in District Court, and the First and Second Departments of the Appellate Division.
