A Republican rival of Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked for prosecutors to investigate how the mayor is paying law firm Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, which is representing him as a probe into his fundraising activities is underway.

Paul Massey, a real estate developer who has announced his bid for mayor in this year’s election, sent letters on Feb. 17 to Southern District U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to “determine whether a thing of value, an illegal campaign contribution, or a failure by the mayor to pay lawfully rendered bills” violates criminal or ethics laws.
