Chief Judge Janet DiFiore kept the focus of her first State of the Judiciary address Wednesday almost entirely on the internal workings of New York’s court system and her efforts so far to improve their efficiency.

DiFiore said she has tried to focus with “laser precision” on having the courts adjudicate matters more quickly, and declared her Excellence Initiative (NYLJ, March 31, 2016) is succeeding at reducing chronic backlogs in some troubled courts and reducing the time it takes to dispose of cases at nearly every level.
