Ten years on the run in Namibia to avoid charges for his role in a stock options backdating scheme will cost Jacob “Kobi” Alexander 30 months in prison.
Alexander, the one-time CEO and chairman of the Israeli voice mail software firm Comverse Technology, was handed that sentence Thursday by Eastern District Judge Nicholas Garaufis—largely because Alexander lied to his lawyer as he fled the country in 2006, spirited over $50 million to Israel and Namibia, and avoided returning to the United States until 2016 to enter a plea deal with the government.
