A legal clinic at Yale University is spearheading a fight to unseal court records that could shed light on President Donald Trump’s alleged ties to a man linked to the Russian mafia.

The motion asserts the public’s First Amendment and common-law rights of access in an attempt to unseal documents behind an illegal “pump and dump” stock scheme involving Russian-born Felix H. Sater. Sater agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors in order to avoid prison, and documents that have been unsealed during the past decade have detailed his connection to the Russian mafia and various Trump associates.
