The Commission on Judicial Nomination set May 19 as the date to apply for the vacancy on the state Court of Appeals created by the death of Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam last week.

The commission creates a list of up to seven candidates from which governors must nominate new judges when openings occur on the state’s highest court. The nominee will be subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
