The lead plaintiff and counsel in an investor class suit against Northern Oil and Gas was selected Monday in a class securities case that grew from a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation that led to the ousting of the company’s former CEO Michael Reger and a significant hit to its valuation.

Southern District Judge Edgardo Ramos‘ opinion and order named Matthew Atkinson as lead plaintiff and the firms representing him and other plaintiffs, Pomerantz LLP and Goldberg Law, as co-lead counsel. Two other plaintiffs in the suit, Richard Miller and Vittorio Franceschi, had sought lead plaintiff status—Miller, initially, alongside Atkinson as co-lead—but were denied. Franceschi’s firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro, was likewise denied.
