Decision and Orders signed: January 9 & 10, 2025 Surrogate Mella

ESTATE OF MARIA LUISA GONZALEZ, Deceased (19-3199/D/E/F) — This court grants the unopposed petition by the Administrator of the estate of decedent Maria Luisa Gonzalez to collect and account for the proceeds of an additional award by the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (the “VCF,” as authorized by Pub L 111-347, 124 Stat 3623 [2011], and further authorized by Pub L 116-34, 133 Stat 1040 [2019] [the "9/11 Acts"]). The account for the initial VCF award was judicially settled by decree of this court dated December 30, 2021. This 72-year-old Decedent was in the “exposure zone” as defined by the 9/11 Acts and died from metastatic lung cancer developed after that exposure. Petitioner’s request to allocate the additional award for claims for this Decedent in accordance with, and as further specified by, the VCF Award Detail, is granted. Attorneys fees are fixed at a rate of 10 percent of the award as provided by the 9/11 Acts, and reimbursement for funeral expenses is granted (which was not paid from prior award). The restrictions on the Letters of Administration are modified to allow Petitioner to collect the proceeds of the award and execute any receipts and releases that may be required. The net award proceeds shall be distributed as set forth in the Decree to decedent’s distributees, Petitioner, her surviving spouse, and her three adult children. Decree settling Administrator’s account signed. Dated: January 10, 2025
