N THE latest round of associate layoffs attributed to the recession in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, nine transactional lawyers have been laid off at the New York office of Jenkens & Gilchrist Parker Chapin LLP.

William P. Durbin Jr., shareholder and president of the Dallas-based firm, confirmed rumors that more layoffs would follow at Jenkens offices in other cities. The firm has more than 600 attorneys nationwide; in addition to Dallas and New York, it has offices in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.
