ALBANY – Chief Administrative Judge Jonathan Lippman told an attentive and seemingly concerned joint legislative budget committee yesterday that the crisis over assigned counsel rates has become markedly more acute over the past year, and worsens by the day.

“There is chaos, there are delays, there are adjournments,” Judge Lippman said. “Family Court judges are walking the halls looking for people to take cases . . . . We just cannot continue at those rates or there will be no one left on the panels.”
