NEW YORK City Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. is weighing whether to seek new lawyers to help shepherd the city’s bond issues to market, according to his spokeswoman, Nicole Lise.

Mr. Thompson, who took over as comptroller on Jan. 1, has already worked with other city officials to force the city’s existing bond underwriters to face competition. A formal request for proposals from financial firms interested in acting as underwriters for city bonds was issued on March 19.
