Henry Stimson, the great lawyer-statesman, once famously opined that “gentlemen do not read other people’s mail.”[1]

Litigation was not the context in which Mr. Stimson made that remark, however, because litigation is all about reading (and using) the mail (as well as e-mail) of the opposing side(s) to demonstrate the bona fides of your client’s position.
