Let’s review some newsworthy judicial decisions, administrative decrees and events of interest to counsel representing national franchisors.

New York State Bar Association Program on Franchising. The New York State Bar Association Franchise Law Committee will be conducting a one-day program on franchise, distribution and licensing law on Monday, June 17, 2002. To be conducted at the Marriott Marquis, this comprehensive seminar is geared to both franchise law novices and veterans, and will address: what franchising is; how franchise structures should be created; which companies for which franchising is suitable; how various licensing and distribution arrangements are actually “franchises” (as that term is statutorily defined), giving rise to unsuspected and unintended liabilities when private or government judicial proceedings are commenced; a comprehensive review of the federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing franchising; franchise-related real estate issues; and what to look for when reviewing a franchise agreement on behalf of a prospective franchisee. For further information, or to register, contact Kim McHargue of the New York State Bar Association at (518) 487-5630 or e-mail her at [email protected].
