A federal judge dismissed a criminal contempt charge against attorney Richard Scruggs on Friday, ruling that an Alabama court lacked jurisdiction to charge the prominent lawyer with contempt for allegedly ignoring an order to turn over documents about insurance claims after Hurricane Katrina.
