Real estate investment trust Lexington Corporate Properties Trust has merged with Newkirk Realty Trust, Inc. in a transaction valued at $4.6 billion. The merger will create the Lexington Realty Trust, a combined real estate investment trust with a focus on single-family properties. Also, electric company Duquesne Light Holdings, Inc. has been acquired by a consortium led by Macquarie Infrastructure Partners. The transaction is valued at $1.5 billion.

In a merger valued at $67 billion, telephone services company AT&T Inc. has agreed to merge with BellSouth Corp. Under the terms of the deal, which is subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, BellSouth will receive 1.3 shares of AT&T common stock for each BellSouth share. Also, KeySpan Corporation, a Brooklyn-based distributor of natural gas and electricty, has been purchased by the British utility company National Grid for $7.3 billion in cash.
