The Blackstone Group LP has agreed to sell eight former Equity Office office buildings to New York-based Macklowe Properties for $7 billion. The deal comes after Blackstone prevailed over Vornado Realty in a hotly contested takeover battle in which Equity Office agreed to be bought out by Blackstone for the price of $39 billion.

NBC Universal Inc., The Blackstone Group, and Bain Capital have agreed to acquire The Weather Channel from Norfolk, Va.-based Landmark Communications for what published reports said was approximately $3.5 billion. Also, Moscow-based OAO SeverStal, one of the world's leading metals and mining companies, has agreed to acquire Esmark Inc., a steel producer and distributor, for $1.25 billion in stock and debt.

At the same time, Evraz agreed to sell part of the U.S. assets to OAO TMK, a Russian manufacturer of oil and gas pipes, for $1.6 billion. Also, Kinetic Concepts Inc. has offered to buy LifeCell Corp., a maker of tissue repair products for surgical use, for $1.7 billion, or $51 per share.
