Law firm combinations last year, while falling short of 2013's historic levels, still remained more plentiful than they've been in preceding years—and New Jersey firms made their share of moves.

There were 82 firm combinations in 2014 documented in a Jan. 7 report by legal consultancy Altman Weil. Of those, seven involved a New Jersey acquirer, and four involved a New Jersey target, while at least two of the combinations involved both a New Jersey target and acquirer, according to Thomas Clay, of Altman Weil's East Coast office.

“Based on our consulting work, New Jersey firms are just as active as any firm in trying to do things,” he said.
