NPS Pharmaceuticals Sold for $5B

Dublin-based drugmaker Shire announced on Jan. 12 it has purchased Bedminster, N.J., pharmaceutical company NPS Pharmaceuticals for $5.2 billion in cash. Eileen Nugent of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom's New York City office, and Graham Robinson and Andrew Kopans of its Boston location are representing NPS in the transaction. A team from Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York City, led by George Bason Jr., and William Chudd, is representing Shire, along with a group from London's Slaughter and May, including Tony Beare, Mark Dwyer, Jonathan Fenn and Martin Hattrell.

Jersey City Property Sold

The mayor of Jersey City, N.J., Steven Fulop, on Jan. 7 announced that hospital operator Barnabas Health, in West Orange, N.J., has purchased property at Grand Street and Jersey Avenue for about $24 million. The property, which was city-owned, will become part of the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health hospital.

Cherry Hill Building Sold for $9M

United Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust in New York City, announced on Jan. 7 that it has paid about $9.3 million to acquire the building at 7 Carnegie Plaza in Cherry Hill, N.J., from previous owner FRS Carnegie Plaza, also of Cherry Hill.
