Applegate Farms Sold for $775M

Austin, Minnesota-based food manufacturing company Hormel announced on May 26 it has paid $775 million to acquire organic meats distributor Applegate Farms in Bridgewater. A group of attorneys from Ballard Spahr's Philadelphia office, led by Richard Braemer, represented Applegate in the transaction. The team also included David Haworth, of Ballard's Cherry Hill office, and Los Angeles-based Diane Thompson. Mike Stanchfield, Ryan Miske, and Adam Hertzke from Minneapolis-based Faegre Baker Daniels represented Hormel.

Covanta Makes Acquisition

Waste-to-energy plant operator Covanta, a division of holding company Covanta Holdings, both in Morristown, announced on May 21 its acquisition of Advance Waste Services Inc., an environmental services provider in West Allis, Wisconsin.

Acquisition for NJ American Water

Water utility New Jersey American Water, a subsidiary of water utility operator American Water Works Company, both based in Voorhees, on May 21 announced it has acquired the water and wastewater systems of Haddonfield. The acquisition was approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, and is effective immediately.
