Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s insurers are claiming the retail giant hastily overpaid to settle a suit over the June 2014 crash in which a Wal-Mart truck slammed into a van carrying comedian Tracy Morgan and others on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Wal-Mart, meanwhile, is continuing to allege that its insurers sought to avoid their coverage obligations in bad faith.

In recent weeks, two of Wal-Mart's carriers–XL Insurance America and Travelers–have filed claims against the retailer insisting that they are not responsible for any portion of the confidential settlement it reached in May with Morgan and three other plaintiffs.
