In Pronovich v. Express Automotive and Towing,a Somerset County jury on March 2 awarded a South Bound Brook woman $2.27 million as compensation for injuries she sustained from a generator that had been installed on the van that she uses for her dog-grooming business, though a partial vacatur brings the actual recovery down to $1.97 million.
The jury awarded the damages to plaintiff Theresa Pronovich, now 56, after finding the defendant, Express Automotive and Towing of Somerset, liable for her injuries, said her lawyer, Ronald Grayzel.
Pronovich was exposed to carbon monoxide fumes on Oct. 6, 2011. The fumes were emitted by the generator, which the suit alleged was not a proper fit for her van, said Grayzel, of Levinson Axelrod in Edison. She was treated for acute carbon monoxide poisoning, he said.
