New Jersey is one step closer to imposing regulations on the burgeoning practice of “telemedicine,” where patients remotely receive medical evaluations or counseling from their health care providers.

The Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee on Monday recommended passage of A-1464, which would set standards for the practice of telemedicine—a practice that is becoming more common around the United States as a means of cutting patient costs and time spent waiting to see a physician or other provider.

The committee passed the bill in an 11-0 vote. The bill has six primary sponsors, led by Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt, D-Camden.
