The New Jersey Law Journal, with the help of an outside panel of distinguished members of the legal community, has named Alexander Shalom “Attorney of the Year.” Shalom's selection from a panel of three finalists was announced Tuesday evening at the Law Journal's Professional Excellence event.

Shalom, senior counsel at the American Civil Liberties Union's New Jersey chapter, was nominated for the award based on his efforts in numerous significant cases in 2016, including in connection with the state's newly enacted bail system. He also took on juvenile justice and police searches, among other issues.

Shalom, in an interview with the Law Journal afterward, said the award “really highlights pretrial justice reform.”
