Ciuffani Receives 2017 Arthur H. Miller Lawyer Achievement Award
In recognition of his many years of service to the bench and bar, retired Superior Court Judge Frank Ciuffani, now of counsel at Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer in Woodbridge, was named this year's Middlesex County Bar Association's Arthur H. Miller Lawyer Achievement Award recipient and was recognized on May 10, 2017, at Pierre's of South Brunswick, in conjunction with the association's 103rd Annual Installation of Officers and Trustees dinner meeting. Ciuffani served as the presiding judge of the General Equity Part, and probate judge of Middlesex County from 2008 to 2017. He also served in the Civil and Family parts in Middlesex County from 2003 to 2008. Prior to his judicial career, Ciuffani was with Wilentz for almost 30 years. A certified civil trial attorney, he concentrated his practice in commercial litigation and employment law. Ciuffani is also a former assistant prosecutor in Middlesex County. As of counsel with Wilentz in the firm's litigation practice group, Judge Ciuffani concentrates his practice on mediating, arbitrating and serving as special master in complex commercial, employment and probate litigation. He chairs the firm's alternative dispute resolution department.
|Nessel Receives Strasser Award for CLE Excellence from NJ Federal Bar
On May 24, 2017, the New Jersey chapter of the Federal Bar Association presented The Honorable William H. Strasser Award for Outstanding Achievement in Continuing Legal Education to Lori Nessel, Seton Hall University School of Law professor and director, Center for Social Justice, at a ceremony held at the Gateway Hilton (Penn Station), 1 Gateway Center in Newark. Immigration Judge Annie Garcy introduced the award in front of a packed room at the FBA's annual immigration conference, also named for Judge Strasser. Nessel was recognized for her long-standing commitment to immigration practice, scholarship, and teaching.
|Ferruggia Receives NRBP's McKenna Award
Frank Ferruggia, a commercial property tax appeal partner with the Newark office of McCarter & English and a past president of the Newark Regional Business Partnership (NRBP), received the NRBP's 2017 Kevin J. McKenna Partner Award on April 4, 2017, at the NRBP's annual black tie reception held this year at Rutgers-Newark's The Great Hall on Washington Street. The NRBP, which raises money for Renaissance Newark Foundation, NRBP's 501(c)(3) affiliate, is dedicated to revitalizing Newark through programs and research that strengthen the quality and number of cultural activities, recreational facilities, economic growth, and employment opportunities. The McKenna award honors McKenna, the longtime NRBP counsel and executive committee member who died in 2011.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
