Michael Stein, the chairman and managing partner of Hackensack's Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, has been named to Democratic New Jersey Gov.-elect Phil Murphy's transition team.

Stein said on Wednesday that he has been named to the team's Law and Justice Committee.

“Obviously, it's an honor” to be named to the transition team, Stein said. “I'm excited to help with the transition.”

Stein's father, retired state Supreme Court Justice Gary Stein, now special counsel to the firm, was, along with retired former Chief Justice James Zazzali, named as ethic counsel to the transition team earlier this month.

Michael Stein has been Pashman Stein's chairman and managing partner since he founded the firm in 1995.

He is a litigator in both state and federal courts, and concentrates his practice on complex and sophisticated corporate, business and probate disputes. He also serves as an adviser to the firm's corporate clients on a variety of matters, including partnership and shareholder disputes, intellectual property rights, antitrust matters, professional malpractice, chancery litigation, legal ethics, land use and restrictive covenants, according to his biography on the firm's website.

Stein joins a growing list of attorneys who have been tapped for Murphy's transition team.

Frank Giantomasi of Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi in West Orange has been appointed to the Transition Counsel Committee; John Fanburg and Mark Manigan of Roseland's Brach Eichler have been appointed to the Healthcare Transition Subcommittee; and Stephen B. Genzer of the Newark office of Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr's utilities practice was appointed to the Committee on Environment and Energy's transition team, according to firm announcements.

Rajiv Parikh, a partner at Newark's Genova Burns, is the transition team's senior counsel.

Murphy also recently announced that Peter Cammarano would be his chief of staff. Cammarano was Gov. Richard Codey's chief of staff and currently is a lobbyist with CLB Partners in Trenton. Also, Matt Platkin was named chief counsel. He previously was with Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.

On the Law and Justice Committee, Michael Stein joins Ronald Chen, the former public advocate who is now co-dean at Rutgers University Law School; former U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman, who is now a distinguished visiting fellow at Seton Hall University School of Law; former First Assistant Attorney General Ricardo Solano, who now is with the Newark office of Friedman Kaplan Seiler & Adelman; and Ehsan Chowdhry, who heads a firm in Neptune and is the president of the New Jersey Muslim Lawyers Association.
