Trial Attorneys Present 2017 Membership Awards

The Trial Attorneys of New Jersey held their 50th Annual Trial Bar Awards Reception on Nov. 2, 2017, at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. This reception was held to honor the work of fellow attorneys and judges and to induct the new slate of officers and trustees. The award recipients included: Trial Bar recipients Michael J. Marone, Jon M. Bramnick and John C. Whipple. Also at the event, retired Judge Garrett E. Brown Jr., former chief U.S. district judge, presented the Daniel L. Golden Lifetime Achievement Award to longtime friend and former colleague U.S. District Judge Anne E. Thompson of the District of New Jersey.
Reedy Elected NFPA Region IV Director
Becky Reedy
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations Inc. (NFPA) announced that Becky Reedy has been elected director, region IV, for the 2017-18 term. The elections were held at NFPA's annual convention in New Orleans on Oct. 13, 2017. The region directors are the main liaison between member associations and other members of the board. Reedy works for the state Department of Child Protection and Permanency as a litigation paralegal specializing in family law. Reedy previously worked in personal injury, and medical and legal malpractice. She has an associate's degree in business administration from Burlington County Community College (now Rowan College) and a bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies from Peirce College. She currently serves on the advisory committees for the Paralegal Studies programs at Peirce College and Brookdale Community College.
Pellitta Honored by Boy Scouts of America

Nicholas F. Pellitta, a partner with Bridgewater-based Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, received The Boy Scouts of America “Toast to Scouting” award at the Patriots' Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America's 2017 Toast to Scouting Awards Dinner, held at the Raritan Valley Country Club in Bridgewater on Nov. 30, 2017. Recipients of the award are chosen for their outstanding community service, through leadership in worthwhile organizations. The council serves more than 19,000 youth members and 6,000 leaders each year in Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Middlesex counties. Pellitta litigates in federal and state courts on behalf of business clients in commercial matters. He has represented colleges and universities for more than 25 years in tort claim defense, campus security, alcohol policies, police litigation, civil rights, and student discipline. He earned his J.D. from New York Law School and his B.A. from Rutgers College.
DellaPelle Elected Chair of Counselors of Real Estate

Anthony F. DellaPelle, a partner in the Morristown's McKirdy, Riskin, Olson & DellaPelle, was recently elected chair of the New Jersey Chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate. DellaPelle limits his practice to eminent domain, redevelopment and real estate tax appeal matters, and is certified as a civil trial attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court. DellaPelle is to serve a two-year term. He also serves on the international organization's board of directors and is currently co-chair of its Membership Development Committee. DellaPelle stated: “There are millions of real estate practitioners worldwide, but only a distinguished few are able to call themselves Counselors of Real Estate. This select group is recognized in the industry for their ethics, experience, expertise, influence and prominence, and our New Jersey chapter includes many leaders in the New Jersey real estate market.”

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
