The Department of Justice announced Thursday that it reached a $2 million settlement with BMW Financial Services N.A. to resolve alleged violations of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.

The Justice Department said BMW failed to refund certain up-front car lease payments to 492 service members who lawfully terminated their motor vehicle leases early. BMW, based in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, agreed to the settlement even after contending that its actions did not violate the act.
