The New Jersey office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, awarded Charles M. Carella and Carella, Byrne Cecchi, Olstein, Brody and Agnello a ”Patriot Award” for their support of firm associate, Capt. John Kelly, while he is serving in the National Guard and Reserve, according to a release. Kelly in a statement commented on the firm's support of his dual commitment. Kelly's deployment is in connection with disaster relief in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. “I am honored to be employed by the firm,” Kelly said. ESGR is intended to facilitate and promote a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts, and acting as the employers' principal advocate with DOD, the release said.

Attorneys from Capehart Scatchard's workers' compensation department in Mount Laurel attended the sixth annual gala for Kids' Chance of New Jersey on July 26, 2018, at the Hilton East in East Brunswick. The event raised funds for Kids' Chance, a nonprofit organization created to provide educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers killed or catastrophically injured on the job. Firm partners John Geaney and Lora Northen serve on the organization's board of directors.

Scholarships were presented to students at the event. Geaney presented a check for $10,000, co-sponsored by Capehart Scatchard, to Will Gardner, whose father, Bill Gardner, worked for FedEx as a truck driver and lost his life in a work-related truck accident, the firm said.
