Mandelbaum Plane Pull Raises Money for Special Olympics
On Sept. 29, 2018, attorneys and staff of Roseland-based Mandelbaum Salsburg sponsored and participated in the Special Olympics New Jersey's annual “Plane Pull” event at Newark International Airport. A team of 20 from the firm pulled a 93,000 lb. United Airlines plane while being cheered on by spectators, according to an announcement. Some 40 teams registered to compete in two pull events. The first event timed how fast teams could pull the aircraft 12 feet. “Team Mandelbaum” got the aircraft moving in 9.94 seconds. The second second event measured which team could pull the aircraft with the least amount of weight. A year's worth of fundraising efforts for the firm raised $11,500 for Special Olympics New Jersey, and the event raised more than $165,000 for the organization in total, according to the firm. Pulling for Team Mandelbaum were Edward Albowicz, William S. Barrett, Brian Block, Ryan Buehler, Lauren Carnevale, Anexy Casiano, Damian Conforti, Robert De La Lastra, Douglas Eilender, Raj Gadhok, Casey Gocel, Joshua Gorsky, Peter Levy, Luis Mercado, Natalie Montijo, Elisabete Rocha, Christina Rodriguez, Michael Saffer, Lillie Simmons and Jeffrey Wasserman. Mandelbaum Salsburg was also a gold sponsor of the event. Barrett, the firm's CEO, said in a statement that the event was “an incredible team building experience and adrenaline rush picking up a rope attached to a plane in the middle of a tarmac and watching that plane start moving.”
