The legendary Bob Woodward will deliver the keynote address at the New Jersey State Bar Association's 2019 Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City.
Woodward gained international attention when he and fellow Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein broke the news of the Watergate scandal in 1972. Their 1974 book about the scandal, All the President's Men, won a Pulitzer Prize. Most recently, Woodward published shocking details about the Trump presidency in his new book, Fear: Trump in the White House.
Watergate's theme of secret government is a common thread throughout Woodward's career that spawned 18 books. All 18 went on to become national bestsellers, and 12 reached No. 1, more than any other contemporary nonfiction author. Needless to say, Woodward has become the ultimate inside man. He has a way of getting insiders to open up—both on the record and off—in ways that reveal an intimate yet sweeping portrayal of Washington and the political infighting, the price of politics, the way presidents lead, and much more. His works are based on research drawing on internal memos, classified documents, meeting notes and hundreds of hours of interviews with most of the key players.
As a speaker, Woodward pulls the curtain back on Washington and its leaders to captivate audiences with stories that are at times shocking, and always fascinating. He blends stories that are from the past (to provide historical context) with up-to-the-minute accounts. Woodward speaks as he writes—crisp and concise—and helps his audiences get behind the spin to understand what's really going on in the halls of power in an age of 24-hour news, social media, and snarky politics.
Professionally, Woodward is currently associate editor for The Washington Post, where he's worked since 1971. He has won nearly every American journalism award.
The 2019 NJSBA Annual Meeting and Convention will be held May 15-17 at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. It is the largest event of its kind; the place to be for education, continuing legal education (CLE) credits, networking, the industry's top speakers and outstanding social events. Over 3,000 legal professionals came to the 2018 convention, where attendees could choose from more than 100 seminars and earn up to 16 credits in three days.
