CREW NJ Hold 35th Anniversary Gala
The Commercial Real Estate Women of New Jersey held its 35th anniversary gala on Nov. 29, 2018, at The Palace at Somerset Park. Meryl Gonchar of Sills Cummis & Gross, past president of the organization, presented the Caren Franzini Award to Carol Ann Short, CEO of the New Jersey Builders Association. Fellow Sills attorney Susan Karp presented the Hall of Fame Award to Ann Waeger of Greenbaum Rowe Smith & Davis, also a past president. Current CREW NJ President Jennifer Mazawey of Genova Burns presented the Shining Star Award to Krista Korinis, president of Global Installation Resources. Sill Cummis has long supported the organization, the firm said in a release, noting that Karp serves as advisor past president and firm attorney Cecilia Lassiter serves as director of sponsorship.
|Saiber Donates to Jersey Cares Coat Drive
During the month of November, Saiber in Florham Park partnered with Jersey Cares to help support its 23rd annual “Jersey Cares Coat Drive.” Saiber collected and donated more than 80 winter coats, the firm said. Jersey Cares' goal is to distribute more than 40,000 “gently-used” winter coats to men, women and children in need throughout New Jersey, the firm said.
|Bolcato Presents to Tax Collectors & Treasurers
Angelo J. Bolcato, a partner in the government services practice group and leader of the business law practice group at Laddey Clark & Ryan in Sparta, presented to the Tax Collectors and Treasurers Association of Sussex & Warren Counties on the New Jersey In Rem Tax Foreclosure process. Bolcato's presentation on Oct. 26, 2018, at Buck Hill Brewery in Blairstown, included a discussion of recent cases affecting municipal tax lien sales and the foreclosure of tax liens, according to an announcement. Bolcato is the township attorney for Stillwater Township and represents Laddey Clark municipal clients with tax lien foreclosure, real property and public contract matters. He also represents for-profit and nonprofit businesses in business startups, succession planning, commercial real estate, entity governance, and transactions. Bolcato is a trustee and past chair of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves as the chair of the SCARC Foundation.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
